Caring, Compassionate Adoption Center for Cats and Dogs

Welcome to Safe Haven, a caring and compassionate sanctuary for cats and dogs. We encourage you to drive out and visit our facility and see how a well-run operation can provide quality care for pets awaiting adoption.

Our sanctuary is located on three acres of land about 10 miles east of Las Cruces, Doña Ana County, New Mexico. There are dog kennels, a cattery, isolation units and a play area, all accommodating up to 45 dogs and 35 cats. Adoption visits are scheduled by appointment 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. We endeavor to accommodate visitors at other times. However, we encourage you to call for an appointment so that you do not miss us while we are making a frequent run into town or have to wait while we deal with other visitors ahead of you. For further information or to schedule an appointment, call 575-805-5338.

Adoption Policy

Prospective adopters are required to complete a Pet Adoption Application. This can be downloaded here or completed at the sanctuary or off-site location. An adoption counselor will review the application with you and once accepted, and the Pet Agreement signed, you will be on your way home with your new member of the family.

Pet Surrender Policy

Due to our capacity limitations, we are only able to accept animals based on space availability. We do not accept pets exhibiting aggressive behavior, who are feral or in apparent poor health. We require that surrenders be pre-coordinated by telephone with the sanctuary. Please call (575) 805-5338 or (575) 527-4544 prior to bringing an animal to Safe Haven to see if we have availability and if we will be able to accept your pet. Please understand that if we do accept your animal, we reserve the right to request a donation to cover the partial cost of care and placement of your pet.
